Under New Jersey’s 2024 inactive-license reform (P.L. 2023, c. 290) and ABC Advisory Notice AN-2025-01, every dormant license in the state was assigned a transfer-or-expire deadline. This license carries an August 1, 2027 deadline, and the seller is committed to completing a transfer well ahead of it. That timeline works in a buyer’s favor: this is a motivated, deadline-driven seller, and licenses like this rarely come to market in an established municipality.
Beverage is typically the single largest margin improvement available to a full-service restaurant. A full-service operation commonly runs a materially lower cost of goods on beverage than on food, and a license is a one-time capital cost against a permanent margin improvement. How the transfer works
Transfer is by person-to-person application to the Township of Belleville, with place-to-place transfer to the buyer’s premises handled in the same application where applicable. Approval customarily runs 60 to 120 days from a signed agreement. The buyer must qualify under New Jersey ABC standards, including source-of-funds review. Deposit is held in New Jersey attorney escrow, and the transaction is expressly contingent on municipal and ABC approval — if the transfer is not approved, the deposit is returned.
